At Chatham Hall, a boarding and day school for girls in grades 9-12, we are smaller by design, knowing that girls learn best in an intentional community in which every student is known well and challenged to choose courage over comfort, to embrace creative risks, and to leverage her own strengths on behalf of the community to which she belongs. Every academic and extracurricular program centers girls.
Since 1894, Chatham Hall students have thrived in this environment designed for high school girls. Our location on 365 spectacular acres in rural Virginia gives girls the chance to learn free of distractions, to immerse themselves in the wonder of the natural world, and to make meaning through the School’s commitment to our Episcopal identity.
Signature programs like the Polly Wheeler Guth ’44 Leader in Residence and a number of international study and exchange programs allow students to pose questions and explore topics with passion and purpose. Whether she is part of our superb Equestrian Program, playing basketball in our state-of-the-art Wagoner-LaDuke Center for Athletics, Health & Wellness, or interpreting the landscape in watercolors or oils, or pursuing independent research, every Chatham Hall girl invests in her community.
