Friends Select School is seeking a lower school assistant teacher to work in a full-time role supporting a lower school lead teacher for the 2024-25 school year. The assistant teacher plays a vital role in ensuring the classroom is set up to run efficiently and that we are creating an environment where children thrive. This collaborative position involves working closely with colleagues and administrators, actively supporting our Quaker philosophy, and participating fully in the life of the school.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the lead teacher in teaching core subjects, completing daily classroom responsibilities, and managing student behavior
- Engage with the students and support their learning both individually and in small groups
- Perform various lower school duties, such as supervising recess and covering dismissal
- Act as lead teacher, covering the necessary responsibilities, while the lead teacher is absent
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the lead teacher or lower school administration
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
- Experience teaching elementary-level children
- Passion for teaching young children
- Interest in continued professional development
- A strong commitment to Quaker values, anti-racism, and social justice
