Interim Lower School Assistant Teacher
Friends Select School is seeking a lower school assistant teacher to work in a full-time role supporting third-grade teachers for the remainder of the current school year. The assistant teacher plays a vital role in creating an environment where children thrive, doing so by supporting the lead teachers during lessons, working with individual learners, providing small-group instruction, and performing lower school duties such as recess and dismissal. This collaborative position involves working closely with colleagues and administrators, actively supporting our Quaker philosophy, and participating fully in the life of the school.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the lead teacher in teaching core subjects, completing daily classroom responsibilities, and managing student behavior
- Engage with the students and support their learning both individually and in small groups
- Perform various lower school duties, such as supervising recess and covering dismissal
- Act as the lead teacher, covering the necessary responsibilities, while the lead teacher is absent
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the lead teacher or lower school administration
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
- Experience teaching elementary-level children
- Passion for teaching young children
- Experience providing math support and enrichment for upper elementary students is preferred
- Interest in continued professional development
- A strong commitment to Quaker values, anti-racism, and social justice
