Friends Select School is seeking two Upper School history teachers to cover quarter-long leaves. The expected dates and positions are listed below:
10th Grade Leave: September 8, 2026 to November 20, 2026
- This position includes teaching three sections of 10th grade Modern World History II and one section of Introduction to Psychology, a senior elective course.
11th Grade Leave: September 28, 2026 to December 18, 2026
- This position includes teaching three sections of U.S. History and one section of African American History, a senior elective course.
The ideal candidate will take a friendly and collaborative approach to teaching in order to create an inclusive learning environment for all students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach sections listed above and potentially lead an advisory and/or a club
- Prepare for classes, including grading homework and assessments and posting work on the school's LMS
- Meet with students when they need extra help and communicate home for persistent struggles
- Communicate with the guidance team and families about students who need additional support
- Maintaining and updating Blackbaud (the school’s LMS) for each class
- Write end of quarter narrative comments
Qualifications/Skills:
- Undergraduate degree in history, or related subject
- Experience teaching history, preferably for grades 9-12
- Experience and proficiency using a Learning Management System (Blackbaud), preferred
